Meet Lara

Lara Suleiman is Vice President of the Oak Brook Park District Board of Commissioners, active and engaged leader in the community, and a mother who gets things done and delivers results.

On the Oak Brook Park District Board, Lara has helped shape the future of our park district for generations to come while remaining fiscally responsible. Her financial philosophy balances innovation and investment, and under her leadership, $3.5 million in grant funding was secured for park district projects.

Lara was integral in the effort to build The Sandlot Universal Playground in Central Park, which led to her being awarded the 2018 Outstanding Citizen Volunteer of the Year by the Illinois Association of Park Districts.

She is the President and one of the Founders of the Women of Oak Brook, served on the Executive Board of the Hinsdale Central PTO, Butler School District 53 PTO, and the Steering Committee of the inaugural Celebration of International Cultures event. She is an accomplished writer with over 13 years in the television, magazine, and newspaper industries, and founded Clouds to Clear, a communications firm focusing on non-profits and community advocacy issues.

She has a Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University-Medill School of Journalism. Lara, her husband, Ahmad, and their four children have lived in Oak Brook for over 12 years.
